About Cognitive Therapy Orange County (CTOC)
Cognitive Therapy Orange County was founded by Erik J. Abell, Ph.D., in 2003 to provide cognitive therapy and consulting services to the public with an emphasis on empirically-based and effective interventions. Cognitive therapy (also known as cognitive behavior therapy) is designed to minimize distress, to increase well-being, and to optimize individual and relationship functioning.
Cognitive therapy (CT / CBT) emphasizes practical, goal oriented interventions. Treatments offered by Cognitive Therapy Orange County (CTOC) are individually and collaboratively designed. We strive to offer therapy that is supportive and as short-term as therapeutically appropriate.
CTOC clinicians have years of experience providing cognitive therapy services and regularly receive training and education in the latest advances in the field.

CTOC's Commitment to Professional Development
Our philosophy at CTOC is that therapists need and benefit from ongoing, in person, professional development.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is scientifically based and continually evolving, thus requiring therapists to stay updated and informed. All licensed therapists in the State of California are required to complete continuing education most of which can be completed through on-line courses.

WEEKLY CONSULTATION FOR CLINICIANS
In addition to the state requirements, CTOC clinicians have met weekly as a group since 2003 for consultation and to share specialized skills. This shared consultation benefits our clients because we do not practice in isolation and are consistently refreshed, inspired and updated through collegial discussions and interactions.
MONTHLY LEADING EDGE SEMINARS
Leading Edge Consultation Conferences
CTOC also sponsors a Leading Edge Consultation Conference for clinicians from the communities of Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego. It includes presentations by cognitive therapy experts on a variety of topics and emphasizes evidence-based principles.
